View answer
One enrollment covers the full 28-hour path: the complete online classroom, interactive activities, quizzes, the final written exam, and preparation for the in-person session.
Is the 28-hour course fully online?
View answer

Requirements depend on your situation and IDFPR rules. Contact the academy through our contact page and we will confirm the right path for you before you enroll.
In-Person 8-Hour Range & Classroom
The 28-hour firearm course is not complete online. IDFPR firearm training requires the final 8 hours to be completed in person so students can demonstrate safety, handling, live-fire qualification, and instructor-observed readiness.
Live-fire skills must be observed.
Range safety, firearm handling, qualification, and practical skills require face-to-face instructor supervision. Online lessons prepare students, but they do not replace the required in-person training.
Classes form with 6 ready students.
GSA Shield Academy schedules the range/classroom day after a minimum of 6 students have completed the online portion and are ready. Students will be notified when a class is formed.
Arrive prepared for range day.
Students should bring required identification, online completion confirmation, approved firearm and holster, duty belt, factory ammunition, eye/ear protection, and range-appropriate clothing.
Instructor commands control the range.
Students must follow all range commands, maintain muzzle awareness, keep fingers off triggers until directed and ready, load/unload only on command, and report safety concerns immediately.
